I am sitting here in Seth’s house looking out the window and wondering just why I planned a 3 ½ week trip back to Iowa- SNOW WIND YUCK!!! I made the drive back from Dubuque with some areas being near white out conditions. You will all have to remember that I have not driven on winter roads in 2 years and on this trip I also did not have my 4 wheel drive. Just getting up the street that runs by Kinzlee’s was a obstacle I ended up not overcoming as I could not make it up the hill. So I turned around and went down the hill only to have a truck pull out in front of me and me skidding part way down the curving street and hitting the curb. This at least slowed me down and straightened me out before the next curve and luckily a man was in the crosswalk and saw me coming so he stepped aside and motioned that there was no traffic coming and to go on through. Wish I could have stopped to thank him but I kept going. Luckily I hit all green lights and managed to get out of town and on Hwy 20 and it was not too bad.
Arriving back in Aurora I realized I have no idea where my boots are and the sandals with socks that my family is so embarrassed about did prove to be not a good thing to wear in Iowa with snow. My feet and my hands are so cold and this has made me want to get to packing.
And packing is easy as I filled my suitcase with presents to bring home and just two blouses so it will be light going back. I am taking a lot of beginning reader books like Dick and Jane’s to help in my teaching English to the kids at the orphanage. I also am taking a huge suitcase of supplies back to the orphanage that was donated.
Something else I am returning with but will not take up much space are checks - from 2 families who are paying for the tuition and costs for 3 girls to attend the private school. This is such a joy to be the go between for- knowing just what these checks do and I only wish I could do more.
So I am preparing both physically and mentally for my return and having an 8 year old in tow. I am hoping he enjoys the flying, does not give me any problems rushing through airports, bus stations and especially immigration.
It will take us almost 24 hours to reach Boquete from the time we get up - this is a long day for an adult but I have no idea how Kaiden will handle it.
Not sure if it will be appropriate for me to start drinking when arrive at 9 AM but it may be needed!!!
